Dorothy E. (Seib) Gordon, 74, of Fleetwood, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, in Lehigh Valley Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth E. Gordon. Born in Wyomissing, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Freida (Wenzel) Seib. Other survivors include one son, Steven K. Gordon, husband of Marie, Emmaus; one daughter, Christine E., wife of Keith A. Claytor, Fleetwood; and two grandchildren, Dylan and Shelby Claytor, Fleetwood. Dorothy loved her family and grandchildren, whom she enjoyed babysitting when they were young, and was happy in their company as they grew older. She took pleasure in sitting by her pool, reading a good book, tending to her bird feeders, and taking care of wildlife. She loved her pet dogs, and cherished her cats who sat with her while she read her novels. Dorothy loved to travel, and was fortunate to have enjoyed many vacations with her husband and children. In addition to visiting much of the United States and Canada, she particularly appreciated the peaceful beauty of Nova Scotia. As a couple, Dorothy and her husband Ken took a number of cruises, and also visited Europe several times. She also enjoyed many trips to Potter County with her extended family. After working for a number of years as Secretary to the Assistant Treasurer of Carpenter Steel, she stayed home to raise her children in their formative years. Later she was employed by Fleetwood Area School District as Secretary to the Principal at Fleetwood High. "Dotto" was dedicated and close to many of the staff at Fleetwood, and truly took pleasure in being there to help and interact with the students. She was a proud Fleetwood Tiger fan, and also very much enjoyed the school plays and concerts. After her children enrolled at Penn State University she became a loyal Nittany Lion fan, and proud "Penn State Mom." Earlier in life she was an active member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Fleetwood. Dorothy taught Sunday School, acted as Primary Sunday School Superintendent, and worked as Church Secretary. Her other activities included the Order of the Eastern Star where she attained the level of Worthy Matron, and many years of service at the Evergreen Country Club. Dorothy and her family shared many fun times at "the Evergreens," and she donated her talents to the club for over 20 years as Secretary and Assistant Secretary. After a 7-year battle with vascular dementia, Dorothy has been released and can soar free, in peace. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to all the friends who've been there with love and support through this difficult journey. May She Rest In Peace. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in St. Paul's Union Cemetery, Fleetwood. Friends may call Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Humane Society of Berks County, 1801 N. 11th St., Reading, PA 19604. I apologize for not updating the web site as much as it should be updated, but with all the other stuff going on with the club it can be quite time consuming. One aspect of the site was the German Sentence and word of the week. It seems like there was not much interest in this feature so I stopped updating it. If anyone would like me to start doing this feature again please let me know. Also, I am hoping to get a better handle on the menu and bar sections. At this point, our menu changes quite frequently so it is hard to keep up. The bar menu is pretty stable so I should be able to work on that. If any member has a suggestion or something they would like to see on the web, please email me at Brian@evergreenclub.org. Thank you.

Having events every day of every weekend is very taxing on the few volunteers we currently have. Out of five hundred plus people we generally have about eight or so whom regularly show up on Friday mornings to clean the grove and ready it for the nights entertainment. Each of these people will tell you they don't mind doing their share, but with the extra days they wouldn't mind spreading out the load. So what do we need? Basically we could use a group of two to four people to do a walk through of the club on Saturday and Sunday mornings. This would take about an hour and would entail; picking up loose trash, ensuring the trash cans are emptied and bagged, ensuring tables and chairs are in order and wiping down the outside bar. During events where we charge a cover, we need people to collect at the entrance areas. Usually it helps to have 2 at each entrance. These individuals, or any who volunteer more than 4 hours at any one event, will be entitled to either four beer chips or one half-priced meal. For our bigger events like Alex Meixner, Berks History Tour, German American Day and Readingstock we will also need runners, beer trailer attendants and parking attendants. There is a lot going on this summer and any time you can give would be greatly appreciated. Now, all that said, to make it easy for members to donate some of their time we have constructed a book with sign up sheets listed by event and needs. This is also a good way to get your school aged child some community service hours. Especially, with the fund-raising events such as Readingstock this June 13th. So come one out, have a beer, go through the book and help out your club. We can only have these great events with your help and support! Prost!!
